How to watch the Carabao Cup: Draws, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool matches in the League Cup 2021-2022

The Carabao Cup, also known as the League Cup or EFL Cup, is the first major trophy awarded in the English football season and one of the three major domestic titles in England alongside the Premier League and FA Cup. In addition to silver, the winner is also guaranteed to advance to the playoffs in the following season of the Europa Conference League, one of the three best European club competitions.

We are in the semifinal phase of the Carabao Cup 2021-22, with two semifinals taking place in two rounds in the first two weeks of January. Manchester City is currently the holder of the trophy, winning it in four seasons in a row and in six of the last eight. But the Citizens will be handing out silver after suffering a knockout in the final with West Ham.

A total of 92 clubs from the top four divisions of English football compete for the Carabao Cup: Premier League (20 teams), Championship (22), League One (24) and League Two (24). The English Premier League clubs will join in the second round and the Premier League teams involved in the European competitions will join in the third round.

Here are the last four teams to place in the semifinals, with the Liverpool-Arsenal schedule postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 at the Liverpool campsite:

The most recent team trophy was Sheffield Wednesday, which upset Manchester United in the 1991 final. After the fall of Sunderland in the quarterfinals, only the Premier League teams remain in the competition for the year 2021-22.

Four English Premier League teams are still alive. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United were eliminated in the second round, while Watford, Everton, Norwich City, Wolves, Aston Villa and Manchester United were eliminated in the third round. Brighton, Burnley, Leeds United, Manchester City and Southampton were eliminated in the round of 16. West Ham, Brentford and Leicester City left in the quarterfinals.

Why is it called the Carabao Cup?

Carabao is an energy drink produced in Thailand and distributed worldwide, and since 2017-18 it has become the main sponsor of the competition.

From the beginning, the tournament was known as the League Cup because it involved all the teams that played in the English football leagues. This explains the nickname “EFL Cup”, which is also often used, where EFL means “English Football League”.
