Updated college football polls: AP Top 25, Coaches Poll rating after CFP Championship

For the first time since 1980, Georgia topped the final vote of the school football season.

The Bulldogs won their first title after 41 years by winning 33-18 over Alabama number one in Monday’s College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs used a bending but non-breaking strategy against Crimson Tide, which forced Alabama to settle for three goals from the field in two trips to the red zone. Alabama finally recorded its first touchdown in the fourth quarter after the controversial fumble Stetson Bennett. This increased the influx from 18-13, but in the end it turned out to be insignificant.

Bennett responded to the grop by completing 4 of 4 passes at 83 yards and two touchdowns to keep Georgia leading 26-18 in the final minutes. The victory was interrupted by the return of Kelee Ring from 79 yards to land in a possible duel in Alabama, which would lead to the termination of the game. Crimson Tide got another chance in the last touchdown; it ended with the firing of Bryce Young – the fourth in the game – and a turnaround on the descents when the clock dropped to zero.

Bennett finished the game by completing 17 of 26 passes for 244 yards and two scores, while runners Zamir White and James Cook combined 161 yards in 19 passes (8.5 yards per transfer). Young completed 35 of 57 passes in 369 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions. The Alabama tight end of Cameron Lat led all the 102-yard receivers.

Georgia thus took first place in the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll rankings. Here’s how this game – plus the rest of the bowling season as it broke – informed about the final college football rankings of the year:
