Over the past year, wrestling promotions have interacted and exchanged talent in what many people call “forbidden doors.” One of the few promotions that did not participate in the act was WWE – until now.
It was announced over the weekend that Mickie James, the current Impact Knockouts champion, will compete in the Royal Rumble on January 29. The event will take place at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Petersburg. Louis.
James announced the news on Instagram and said she was raising the bar and lowering the glass ceilings. The former WWE women’s champion is trying to make a real impression on WrestleMania.
This is the first time James has entered the WWE ring since she was released on April 15, along with several other wrestlers. Her shooting was considered controversial because she received her personal belongings in garbage bags.
James made her WWE debut in 2005 and was immediately included in the story with Trish Stratus. It was released in 2010 and soon after competed around the world. She returned in 2016, faced Asuce for the NXT Women’s Title, and then signed a multi-year contract with WWE. James is a five-time WWE women’s champion and one-time Divas champion.
Since leaving WWE, James has won the Impact Knockouts Championship four times. She recently returned to Impact and defeated Deonna Purrazzo for the title. At last weekend’s Hard to Kill, James Purrazza defeated Texas Deathmatch and retained the title. While also competing with Impact, James works with the National Wrestling Alliance and was executive producer of the NWA Women’s EmPowerrr event.
Impact’s Scott D’Amore recently spoke to Sporting News about WWE’s joining Forbidden Door, citing James as an example of someone who could be a good crossover star. James will now represent the Impact in a match that will determine who will fight for the women’s title of their choice on WrestleMania.

“One of the last parts of the forbidden door that hasn’t been kicked out is the 800-kilo gorilla: WWE,” D’Amore said. “Can you imagine a world where Mickie James sees Charlotte Flair, Jordynne Grace, and Becky Lynch? You have to make so many matches. We see so many individuals we never thought we would see, such as Kenny Omega and Jay White, who showed up unexpectedly. The possibilities are endless. You can sit down, make a list and come up with multi-year dream matches with wrestlers. Only time will tell. “
It is also is reported that WWE is interested in bringing another big name for the men’s Royal Rumble.
