Ranger All-Star Mavericks Luka Doncic finds his notch with another triple-double

Five days after ending the Chicago series of nine NBA victories, the Dallas Mavericks stopped a series of 11 Memphis Grizzlies games with a FedEx Forum 112:85 comeback.

Luka Doncic recorded his 40th triple-double in his career, finishing the match with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Doncic became only the eleventh player in NBA history to record 40 triple-doubles in his career. By comparison, in the history of the Mavericks there were 80 triple-doubles – Doncic is responsible for half of them.

The Slovenian achieved this in his 226th career match, the second-least 40 triple-double in NBA history (Oscar Robertson, 92 games).

Doncic has been inconsistent this season and its overall numbers have dropped compared to last season. Many began to question whether the problem was caused by his condition – or lack thereof.

But Doncic missed a bit of time due to an ankle injury and also spent some time in the league’s health and safety protocols. In a loss to the Pacers, he injured his ankle again and was due to return on December 23, but after entering the protocols on December 22, he was suspended for another five games.

Doncic has missed 15 games for Dallas this season and the Mavericks have 6-9 in those matches, which highlights its importance to this team.

However, since the end of the protocols on January 1, Doncic has been playing at an extremely high level. In the last five matches, he has a triple-double average of 23.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 10.2 assists.

The Mavericks lead 4-1 in these games and have won eight of the last 10, which is really their move. As a result, they moved up to fifth place in the Western Conference table at 23:19, even though they are still five games behind Utah’s fourth Jazz.

The Mavs host the Orlando Magic on Saturday at the American Airlines Arena.
