Cape Verde 0: 1 Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso scored its first points at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, as winner Hassane Bande secured a 1-0 victory over the Cape Verde Islands on Thursday.

Six minutes before half time, the band sent a ball from Issa Kabore’s cross and secured Burkina Faso a victory.

The band was brought to the lineup to replace Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore, who tested positive on Covid-19 on the eve of the match.

It is the first victory in Group A for Burkina Faso, which lost its opening match with Cameroon on Sunday.

The Stallions moved up with their opponents by three points in the table, three behind Cameroon, which became the first team to qualify in the last 16 after beating Ethiopia 4-1 in a previous Group A match at Olembe Stadium.
