UFC 270: Who will be in Deiveson Figueiredo’s corner against Brandon Moren?

The familiar face looks to add fuel to the fire in the battle for the title flyweight trilogy on UFC 270 between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moren. The first named hired the services of former UFC fly and bantamweight champion Henry Cejud for his match on January 22.

Cejudo and Moreno have a long history. The first one helped Moren at the beginning of his career, letting him stay in his house and at the same time helping Moren with whatever he needed. Things changed between them when Cejudo chose Alexander Pantoja instead of Moreno during The Ultimate Fighter 24. Moreno then began working with Joseph Benavidez, who faced Cejudo during The Ultimate Fighter final. Benavidez and Moreno have continued to fight each other over the years.

They both feel betrayed, and beef has developed between Cejud and Moren, to which Figueiredo has joined. Figueiredo appeared in the podcast Trocaçao Franca MMA Fighting and discussed bringing Cejud on board. Figueiredo originally looked into the fight with Cejud at one point. Cejudo, who knows Morena well after training, may have some insight into how to oust the current champion.

“Brandon Moreno is dirty – that’s all I have to say about him,” Figueiredo said through MMA Fighting. “He’s dirty.” He’s a traitor. When I came to Scottsdale, [Ariz. at the Fight Ready gym,] Henry Cejudo told me about his betrayal. Here he lived with Henry Cejudo and then became [Joseph] Benavidez’s sparring partner is fighting Ceyud, so it was his biggest betrayal.

“That’s why Cejudo is coming with me.” [to the fight], look him in the eye. Cejudo will be in my corner to look at the little punker’s face, and I’ll tap him. Mark my words. “

Figueiredo made his professional debut in 2012 and joined the UFC in 2017. He twice fought with Benavidez for the UFC title in fly weight. The 34-year-old missed a weight in the first match against Benavidez, leaving him ineligible to win the title. In retaliation, he defeated Benavidez cleanly and won the belt. Moreno joined the UFC in 2016, but was released in 2018 after only two losses to them. He joined the LFA and in his debut match there impressed the UFC brass band there so much that he returned to promotion in 2019. Moreno has scored 4-0-2 in their last six matches.

Both athletes fought in a draw at UFC 256 in December 2020. During the match, Figueiredo was deducted a point for repeated blows to the groin. At UFC 263 in June, the two fought in retaliation, with Moreno sending Figueiredo at the start of the third round. While the candidates in the division continue to make themselves known, the fight for the trilogy was the only duel that made sense.

Cejudo retired in May 2020, but is still active in the MMA community. Figueiredo, who usually goes to fight at full speed, credits Cejud for helping him become a much more patient and calm warrior.

“I’m glad to have him by my side,” Figueiredo continued to Cejud. “It gives me confidence.” I’m concentrating on this fight, brother. I can’t wait to go back to Brazil and take this belt with me. The fire is burning in me to enter the octagon and overcome it. “

UFC 270 takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The main match will be Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane, who will determine the undisputed heavyweight UFC champion.
