Turkey’s Cem Bolukbasi will race in Formula 2 this season and become the first player to move from F1 Esports to the Formula 1 feeder series.

After starting on the virtual races with the F1 Esports series and making his debut in 2017, Bolukbasi has spent the last few years advancing in the sports car and monopost championships.

The 23-year-old now gets his chance in F2 after signing a contract with Charouz Racing System, and says he has the ultimate goal of one day to take a step in F1.

“If I had never been in F1 Esports, I would never have had a chance to get in a real car. I wouldn’t be where I am now,” Bolukbasi said.

“I think it’s also very important to be the first player to do it, because it can give people hope. If people see that one person can do it, they’ll believe they can do it.”

“If I can move from F1 Sports to Formula 2, I think everyone can do it.”

Last year, the Turk competed in the F3 Asian Championship, scoring 13 of his 15 races and winning his EuroFormula Open debut race. The F2 tested in Abu Dhabi after the end of last season.

“I was in Abu Dhabi in 2017 for F1 Esports as an Esports driver,” he added. “Going back after four years of testing the F2 was pretty crazy for me, I realized everything. I watched the F1 finals, the testing and then a day later I drove the F2. I was like a kid living a dream through five.” or six days. “

Bolukbasi, supported by several large Turkish companies and state agencies, is the first driver from his country to race in the Formula 2 series.
