Covid: “We’re so proud of how Bertie bounced back.”

The parents of a five-year-old boy with autism spoke of their pride in his progress since he started school.

Bertie from Loughborough, who is nonverbal, started going to school in September 2020 after a difficult lock that deprived him of his special game group, autism and speech therapy.

However, he has been successful since starting school and was recently shortlisted for Young Personality of the Year at the national award ceremony for young people with complex disabilities, organized by the charity Sense.

“When I think about how proud I am, I’m emotional about it,” his mother Laura said.
