Microsoft says it will reveal a summary of previous sexual complaints after the victory of shareholders of activists

Microsoft announced on Thursday that it had hired a law firm to review how the company dealt with allegations of sexual harassment against some of its top executives – including founder Bill Gates.

The review will be conducted by Washington, DC-based Arent Fox LLP, who was selected by the board because he has experience in dealing with sexual harassment allegations and has not worked with the company in the past.

“Our culture remains our number one priority and the entire Board of Directors appreciates the critical importance of a secure and inclusive environment for all Microsoft employees,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

“We are determined not only to review the report, but to learn from the evaluation so that we can continue to improve the experience of our employees,” she continued.

“I accept this comprehensive review as an opportunity for further improvement.”

The move to hire an independent company to review the company’s investigation comes after activist shareholders demanded more exposure to how the company deals with sexual harassment.

A resolution seeking greater transparency was passed in November with the support of nearly 78 percent of shareholders in November, according to the New York Times.

As part of the review, Arent Fox is expected to provide its findings to senior executives and Microsoft board members with recommendations on how to improve the company’s culture, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The company would then share a summary of the findings with the public in the spring, leading to the public publication of a Microsoft Transparency Report, which details the effectiveness of the company’s workplace policies on sexual harassment and gender discrimination.

The report will include the number of sexual harassment cases that Microsoft has investigated and the results of those investigations, and is expected to summarize the results of investigations by Gates and other executives.

In a statement, Microsoft executives said the report “will assess the steps taken to make employees, including executives, responsible for sexual harassment or gender discrimination.”

The company will also compare Microsoft’s policy on sexual harassment and gender discrimination against best practices adopted by other companies.

According to the Times, founder Bill Gates was accused of recovering at least two employees while managing a technology giant.

In at least one case, in 2007, he states that Gates gave a presentation to a Microsoft employee and then immediately sent her an e-mail requesting an appointment. He reportedly wrote, ‘If you’re uncomfortable, pretend it never happened.’

Microsoft’s management then allegedly warned Gates not to do such things.

But at a cocktail party on a business trip after years, Gates reportedly asked the woman who worked for him to have dinner.

In 2019, Microsoft’s board of directors received a letter from an engineer claiming that he had a relationship with Gates in 2000 that lasted several years.

Microsoft’s board of directors investigated the incident and wanted Gates to step down, told Business Insider, and resigned a year later.

A billionaire spokeswoman said his resignation “was by no means related to the matter. In fact, he expressed an interest in spending more time on his philanthropy, which began a few years ago. ”

Gates also met his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, when she joined the company as a product manager right after college. One day, he invited her to a company parking lot, Insider said.
